I am a newbie and my screen name should say it all. I have one (actually two, but my wife doesn't know about the "parts tractor") of the most beknighted of the 82 series, the 582 Special.
I am plowing my way through the process and am somewhat taken aback at how much money has this has cost so far. From nothing to two tractors, a 8a42A snowthrower and two mowing decks (44a and 44c). So one 582 is a solid tractor, the other is a clapped out junker with good sheet metal. I am working on the good one, but I stripped the sheet metal off the junker to get it painted. When the sheet metal is back, I will replace the metal on the good tractor. All because I can't spray paint (don't know how). I am retired from the Army, and still work for Uncle Sam. A glutton for punishment. I am looking forward to being a member and maybe even contributing to it! Tom |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
