axle shaft housings
aluminum versus iron... Do the aluminum housings have problems if everything is kept tight, or do they only break with loose bolts?
I have access to iron ones for my 1810, but don't need to bother pulling them if they aren't really needed. Installing iron on an 1810, is this a 100% straight swap, or are there other modifications that are required? |

There is nothing wrong with the aluminum ones if they were kept tight. You could put the CI in but you should also change the guts to get the fine splin axles from the al to the ci. I do recommend putting a rear hitch plate on the frame to stiffen it up.

If your considering just the axle tubes I don't think that will work, as one is shorter than the other on the cast iron ones, the aluminum are fine if you keep the bolts tight like Oak said.

thanks guys! I'm not having any trouble, so I'll leave well enough alone. I will look into the frame hitch though if it is still with the donor.
