2182
There's a 2182 near here that "wont move because it needs new relief valves".
Does that sound plausible, and are there other checks I can do to increase the confidence that that is what is actually toast with this neat old (running) tractor?

The 2182 has a Sundstrand Hydro Unit in the tractor. When the engine is off, and there is no hydraulic pressure, the Relief Valves should open and allow you to push/pull the tractor.

I think it would be unlikely that both forward and reverse relief valves to be malfunctioning, unless seller has been using tractor as parts machine (you get the bad parts). I think something along driveshaft could be the problem.
Go and look. Take little money. Offer low. The seller needs to be motivated to sell low because it don't move. I'm was thinking maybe take extra relief valves if you have any....I'm not sure about that, because if tractor works again then seller will want more money.

The worst that could be is a frozen brake.
Is it a 150.00?

Only way to actually "check" would be to plumb in a gauge. I would bet money it's a stuck valve as the seller said tho

I wouldn't give a lot for it but I sure would go look. 2182 is a lot of tractor.

Are we talking a $200 dollar won’t move or a $1200 won’t move price John? A good running WG should bring $500-600 + all the other goodies.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
