Diesel APU repower for the 1811
Has anyone here tried a repower with the diesel engine from an OTR truck APU unit? It looks like those engines would fit well in a CC frame plus they are a self contained unit with radiator. These units only turned a generator and a/c pump so strip all that off and you just have a two or three cylinder diesel and cooling pod.
After pricing the parts to rebuild the M18 in the 1811 I am thinking about a diesel repower. I know where I might can buy a couple of the older Rigmaster units with very low hours and the wheels in my head started turning

I am familiar with those units, and I see no reason they won't work.

They are 12 HP at least the Kubota's that powered the Macron units are. I know because we have them piled up like cord wood at the shop.

my father had an older Kubota lawn tractor that had a two cylinder diesel and that was a 12 hp. The cub 1572 has the three and that is 15 hp. I think now they r turning the three cylinders up to around 20 hp but I don't have specs on that. The 1572 and others have the rad in front, my dads Kubota had the rad in the back of the engine up at the fire wall ,both had the exhaust on the right or passanger side. Good luck. Dave

The two I know about are about five year old Rigmasters. They constantly gave trouble but the engines never did. I thing the engines are Perkins.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
