Default Cub Cadet 1200 spark issues

Hi people,
I need some help with my cub. Has been running pretty flawless. Went to start this morning to no avail. Pulled plug and has a little gas on it so getting gas. Tried to turn it over with plug out but connected. Seems like no spark with starter engaged trying to start it but when I release ignition some spark shows up till engine stops spinning. Can someone help me try and diagnose this ? Thanks.

How long has it sat for? Could just be some junk on the points.

I would suggest checking your Battery Cable connections. Both cables, both ends, to make sure they are clean, bright, and tight.

Next have your Battery "Load Tested" to see if it is up to par.

Have to apologize. I missed the part where you say spark only appears with key released in run mode and not in crank mode... generally when this happens either the key switch itself is bad or you have a poor connection at keyswitch. As Roland said. Check terminals then check connections at key switch.

Update to my issues.
So I cleaned the battery terminals , and the points. Charged the battery cause I forgot to shut key off yesterday. Pulled plug reconnected to wire and turned over. Lots more spark. Put plug back in and tried to start, it started but only low idle for a while then quit. Dropped bowl on bottom of carb to check float, looked good. Backed out adjustment screws on carb, cleaned and put back all the way in then backed off about 2 turns. Seems like getting gas, spark looks ok although every once in a while looks sparse .
Last time I used it on Saturday it seemed like it was running out of gas ( but actually was ok ) pulled it into garage and accidentally turned off ignition at full throttle causing it to backfire before stopping . Not sure where to go from here, any other help would be appreciated and thank you to the few guys that already replied.

I would run a wire from the battery to the coil directly and see how it runs with it that way.
DO NOT leave it this way, for testing only.

Did you recheck and clean the points again after doing this?
The others are fart smellers... I mean smart fellas and have given some good advice.

Somehow, I think you have more of a fuel problem rather than electrical ignition problem. I know you see a wet plug and I know you dropped the bowl and you thought it looked good. That alone doesn't eliminate a fuel issue. I'd pull the carb and clean it.

Other than that....going back to electrical: Try new plug. Could be fouled. Replace the condenser and be sure it's installed properly on negative side of coil.
