Fwd/Rev Brake lockout point?
Hi all. Great info on this site. I have a 127 Cub that I am playing with on a 3.5-acre homestead in New Zealand. Funny I have four tractors. The Cub, and a front-end loader Yanmar 4WD 15hp and a 20hp Yanmar 4WD tractor, and a 70hp monster 4WD Ditch Witch digger. Of all the tractors the Cub gets used the most. Funny how that works.
Anyway, my question is where is the adjustment point for the lockout to keep the hydrostatic gearbox from being put in reverse when the breaks is down. I can put the lever in reverse but I have to be pulling the brake peddle upward. I have climbed under a couple times to try and find the spot but I have not stumbled upon the adjustment as of yet. I did today change the head gasket again. This time I put the head on a piece of sandpaper over glass and did a nice of flattening the head. And I retourqed the head after the first run in. That seemed to help a lot. Then I ran it for another half hour and checked the tourqe a third time. The second time it took another half turn on every bolt, but the third time I got no bolt or nut movement so I guess I got it tight and right. Thanks again if someone has an idea of how to make the fwd/rev adjustment. Scott |

Here is a link that will get you to the chassis service manual, it has the procedure for adjusting the hydro.

Thanks
Great link. Thanks. I printed it today and hope I can make the repair this weekend.
I tested the head gasket replacement today and set the balance of the carb lean/rich per the manual. Ready to test the rototiller again. Got three rows of potatoes in and then rototilled a big area for my neighbor when the head gasket blew. I was having to fight with fwd/rev lever the whole time running the tiller thinking how nice it will be when we figure that out. Now that the tiller seems to be working my wife wants a crop of broom corn, oats, and a few others as well. Going to test that Cub in the next week. I guess it's worth fixing the fwd/rev linkage before doing all that work. Thanks again. Scott |

I believe you will have much better luck with a gear drive cub equipped with a creeper gear for operating a tiller.
Good luck w/the garden!! |

Sounds like you might need to do two things--
First, the neutral adjustment (see the manual already referenced), and second, repair the hydro control linkage and the trunnion as needed. more info on step two here here: https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...ead.php?t=4635 Good luck with the garden! We're finishing up our gardens here in the northern hemisphere.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
