Default Model & Year Help

Hi Everyone,

My name is Nick, and I am a new member / first-time poster. I have been charged with restoring a Cub Cadet that has been sitting idle for nearly 20 years. I was hoping that you all might be able to help me identify the Model and Year...

Known Information:
1) CHSI Serial #: 351530-R7
2) KOHLER Engine: Model No: K161; Spec No: 2853E. Ser No: "?"-600752 ("?" is a Letter designation that is covered/scratched out... A=1965, B=1966, C=1967, D=1968, E=1969).
3) Please see the attached pictures.

Thanks, everyone! & Thank you Mr. Bedell, for suggesting this approach!

-Nick

That is a Cub Cadet "Original"
351530-R7 is the part no. not serial no.
Your Kohler spec no. is likely 28542E
Chassis serial no. is located here.

The Original was made from Oct 1960 to Aug 1963. The serial number will pinpoint Month & Year.

Thanks Bill682 & R Bidell!

As for the serial #... bummed I read that wrong. That part # is in the same location that Bill682 noted the serial # should be. In fact, I don't recall seeing any other identifying markers in that area?

Perhaps...

1) The tractor isn't all original?
2) The "L2", which is stamped in that same location -see pic- means that part should be on the left side and not the right? I do recall my Boss noting something about his son, years ago "hot-rodding" with the tractor. He ultimately dropped the transmission. They replaced the transmission... maybe that part is interchangeable with the other side, and they just mixed it up?

I will look for a serial # again.

Thanks again!

The serial number is STAMPED into the side of the case in the location indicated.
You may have to scrape or wire brush some paint off to locate them.
IF you are LUCKY, it will be a low 4 digit number!!
Those numbers you pictured and referred to are CASTING NUMBERS

You have been "charged" with restoring it??
As in someone hired you to do it?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
