Tachometer help
I have looked through all the old threads in this section and can't seem to find the information I'm looking for.
The digital readout on my timing light quit working some time ago and now I have no way to adjust RPMs. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced handheld tachometer? I really prefer one that clips onto the battery for power and then clips onto the plug wire to count the sparks. The reviews on the products that are on the market now are all over the place. Can anyone offer first hand information of a respectable product? Thanks Guys

I have all different kinds of tachs. Mine are all the "expensive" ones. I can tell you the only one I like for working on the kohlers is the photo-tach. Even my Snap On timing light with RPM's isn't that great (as in not as accurate). For the money and the fact that it seems like you "get what you pay for" I'd suggest a new timing light. Unless you want to fork over the cash for a photo-tach. Just my

I got one of those laser tachometers for about $20 on Amazon. You put a little piece of white sticker on the rotating part and point the laser at it, I guess it counts how many times the laser beam bounces back off the sticker. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it should be in the ballpark at least, given the MO I suspect it should be quite accurate.
I also have one of those tachometers with the vibrating wire. I only use that one when the wife is around, much cooler looking than the laser one. |

It's not a laser. It's a light beam. It's called a photo-tach. Which is what I was talking about in the above post....... Good info that you can get them cheap from Amazon. Mine is a Snap-On. Those are kinda pricy for the DIYS.

I'm going to have to send it back for false advertisement, mine is called "Photo Laser Tachometer" and has a Class II laser warning on it. Laser or not, you're right it's definitely a light beam.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
