Problem no one can figure out
In have a 2072 that would not run after 15 20 seconds. After talking to lots of people, dealers still can't figure it out. I have replaced the fuel pump and rebuilt carb. finally got it running yesterday but, this is the third time overnight the oil has filled up with gas. After the first two times I was told it was the fuel pump ( I changed it) after the second time I was told it was the carb (changed it) still when I went out today the oil again was full of gas. I even took the carb off another running 2072 and this still happened.

Isolate the 2 components. When you park it, disconnect the pump to carb fuel line and cap it. If it doesn't fill up with gas in a couple days, bypass the pump and connect fuel line directly to the carb (with a full tank of gas). Which ever way fills up the crankcase with is your problem.

I would put a electric fuel pump on. I do that on all my mags.

Are you sure your neighbor isn't coming over at night and pouring gas in oil fill tube?

To add insult to injury, he's probably siphoning it from the mustang.

Fire hazard waiting to happen! I'll come haul it off to save your family and other toys. NO CHARGE. If not try this. I have them on all 3 of my Cub's.

Ok I'll be setting up a camera tonight to see if my 87 year old neighbor is the culprit and I'll put a locking cap on the mustangs. If it is the carb it has happened with two different carbs the same is true for the fuel pump as I changed them out twice. I will clean the tank and replace the lines and filter this week.

Well the gas is coming from somewhere. Could it be the fuel line is shedding particles and now has caused the carburetor float valve to stay open? Has the fuel line and fuel filter been changed?
I had a similar oil problem. I pulled the fuel tank and cleaned, then changed all the hoses and fuel filter on my 1864.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
