Default My Original Restoration

Primer:
Will any metal based primer work for the Cub Cadet Paint?

Paint:
I see in the posts below that people have had luck with 50/50 of Paint and reducer with a cap of hardener. Now, I am doing my Original and need to know what White to use, I am not using that cream crappy "white" color for my hood that CC sells now. What other manufacturers make a white color similar to the O's white and is durable like CC paint?

Next Decals:
I am going to get my decals from Maple Hunter, but I need the mower deck decals also but they don't have that one. The ones with those red arrows and such. Anyways, just wondering what you all thought about Maple Hunter Decals?

Assembly:
I plan on spending the extra $ to get SS bolts and nuts, but do you all think it would look better to leave them unpainted or paint them yellow? It almost seems silly to paint them since when I am putting it back together inevitably the wrench will take some of it off the heads of the bolts.

I wouldn't use the SS grade 5 is what they used at the factory. I love the look of unpainted bolts but there is lots of extra work and care with doing it that way.

Ask him how he knows I'm with Duke put together with grade 5 and then paint it. Thats the way it was done. Otherwise lots of washers to keep the paint from chipping off. Parts that need masking in odd places that need paint like the rear axle tubes to rear housing. If enough attention spent on it though and it would would look great either way. Please take lots of pics and share!!

Okay so let me make sure I understand you here... I should assemble the tractor with grade 5 then paint it as a whole? I was under the impression it was better to take it apart and paint individual pieces so that between the pieces have paint. I am not arguing here, just wondering.

Also, any idea with what white paint to use? Should I just use a white enamel paint from any hardware store?

if you find any old factory photos, the tractors were assembled mostly together and painted. If you want to be "true" to restoration, that's how it's done. However it's your machine. When I did my 127 I did it in sections, there were a few small parts I painted separately (heat shields, etc...).

The stainless steel is a nice "bling" factor in some spots. but again... Just have fun with it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
