cub cadet original timed deck not working properly
Hi all,
I have a 62 original with the square 38" timed deck. I never really used it until recently. As far as I know its timed correctly as when i flip it upside down and spin the cogs, the blades don't hit. When its on the tractor, I can turn it on and they don't hit but when i drive over uncut grass, the blades it. What could this problem be? |

Are they close at all when turning them by hand? I have one that had the blade bolt come just enough loose that under load the blade would turn a bit and the blades would hit.

Set the blades so that they are 90 degrees to each other. Page 6 on the owners manual.

Yeah that's a good place to start for obvious reasons, but in my case the blade was turning on the shaft.

Worn belt, it may also not be the blades hitting each other, the may be hitting the deck. Are they the correct ones?

Worn belt seems likely. Also, where the blades are hitting should be pretty clear with a close look.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
