Default When Did Front Wheels Lose Their Grease Zerks?

I noticed the 1811's front wheel bearings making a slight noise when I had it jacked up to grease the front kingpins. These rims have no accommodation for grease zerks, and have matched USA bearings, making me think they're original.

When did the grease zerks go away? Even my newer cyclops have them, unless someone replaced the wheels with the tires or something like that along the line?

Neither my 1986 model year 1811, or 1989 1050 had the zerks ever. Those are a Cyclops feature, or a service replacement wheel feature. My 782 has the front wheels from a Cyclops and it has the zerks.

Mabe the question should be "when did they start ADDING the zerks to the front wheel bearings and WHY?

But, on 2nd thought, I think we all know the reason why.

If we have members with unmolested 1990 model year Cyclops tractors, this will help narrow it down.

I have an early 1641 with the zerks.

Maybe the parts books had a "pictorial update" with the newer wheels?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
