Default Oil control issues on a 1641

Does anyone have any experience with a bagger for a 48in deck on a cub 1641?. Not looking for a fan assist, just a bagger. All I see are options for 46. Does the 48 not have enough vacuum? Has anyone ever taking, oh say any Craigslist bagger and modified / fabricated with good success ? Thanks

Having had both a 46" and 48" on a 1641, I can tell you the 46" deck is quite capable of filling all three sacks with grass clippings and/or dry leaves. If you take the bags off, the 46" deck likes to leave a nice windrow of clippings on your yard. I have been told by a Cub dealer, that's why that deck was discontinued.

The 48" deck MIGHT gather clippings but I don't think the made a bagger for that deck. If they didn't, there must have been a reason.

The 48" deck does a nicer job of mowing the lawn than the 46" in my opinion.

The 46" deck when used with a lawn vacuum like EZ VAC will not leave a single uncut blade of grass or a leaf on the lawn.

Thanks for the reply mike, Kinda what I expected to hear , but not what I wanted to hear. I have some serious other problems with the motor now so the deck doesn't do me any good at the moment.

Sam Mac, The engine smokes extremely bad, I did a compression test and got 145psi in each cylinder, so I figured it was just bad valve seals, I replaced all 4 seals, and it still burns oil like there is no tomorrow. So I'm at a loss whether to replace rings and pistons or repower. Ive only had this for a short time, and new parts are adding up fast.

Put air pressure on the cylinders with the piston up and both valves closed. See if you can hear air leaking into the crankcase. If so, you likely have blown head gasket(s). Especially if the cooling fins are full of dirt, oil, mouse nests and grass.

If you pull a head, look for the gasket to be blown over towards the open hole to the crankcase.

Default 1641 valve seals

hello everyone,
I looking for some advice on a 16hp vanguard ohv in my 1641. Problem is that is burns oil, I've replaced head gaskets and it will pull 145 psi on my compression gauge. The other day it was running low on oil so I added about a 1/2 quart directly into the fill hole on top of the head. Soon as I started it back up, basically all the oil was pouring directly out the exhaust, smoked up my entire yard. My question is, has anyone ever worn out valve guides on one of these engines, Or just seals from improper valve adjustment?

James, here is a post I did on a 3165. What do your guides look like? I ended up replacing the head and it is still going strong today.

The valve seals and valve adjustment can be completed fairly easily from the top. Would need valve cover gaskets if you have not recently changed those.

Here is a 1440 I did not long ago. Spent a lot time and too much cash.....

well guys I put the new valve seals in, reassembled the motor, still smokes likes crazy, I guess my rings are bad, even though it lunged 145psi per cylinder. The air filter is extremely dirty and I'm assuming that is what has led to its failure. Ive only owned this for a short period and its been one thing after another. So debating whether to do a repower or new piston/rings

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
