Default Cub cadet rzt50 loud

Hello, I have a cub rzt50 with a kholer 22hp engine. Over this past mowing season i noticed the mower started becoming louder (popping type noise), specifically from the left side of the engine. The mower still mowed fine, so I thought it was a bad muffler. However, at the very end of the season it became much louder and now vibrating horrible. Also, its hard for the deck to keep up now. The sound or vibration has never been associated with engaging the deck. I'm now afraid there is a problem with a piston. I have changed out the spark plugs already with no change. Oil has been okay the entire time. Hard for me attach a video, but I will try if no one has any idea. Thanks.

What model engine do you have? The parts look-up only show the Briggs or Kawi engine was available.

Pull the plug wire off of the cylinder that you think is making the noise and start it. Does it run or sound any different? Then do the same to the other cylinder.

Pull the spark plugs and see if you can feel any compression on each cylinder. Or you can go to your local auto parts store and see if they have a compression tester you can borrow. I think most of the big auto parts stores have a tool lending program.

Sorry it is a kholer 23 hp 7000 series. I tried pulling the plug wires. The engine will not run without the plug on the side of the carb. The engine sounds no different when pulling the other plug wire. When removing this plug there does feel like good compression and the sound seemed to be louder. Here are a few pics.. any suggestions?

A video would help a lot. You can upload one to YouTube and then post a link here.

Wondering what kind of loud are you talking about.
Like a marble bouncing around in a glass bottle?
A popping sound like a misfire? Did you eliminate the muffler?

Perhaps a cover coming loose and rattling?
Narrowing down your description would help.
I wouldn't be able to figure out a video either.
Let us know.

This might be a stretch but I worked on a 22 Kohler not long ago
and the rocker arm assembly had come completely apart. It still
ran but certainly not well. A bit like you describe. Put it back together
and owner tells me it runs great now.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
