82 Series

I recently bought a collection of Series 82 manuals in CD format. Amongst these are the service manual for the 582, 682, and 782 series but not one for the 882D, which of course is what I have. It does include the service manual for the 782D and 882D Kubota motor, so I am OK there.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the 782 and 882 were basically the same. Is this correct? If so, I can use the 782 service manual for the chassis and the 882D manual for the motor. Help please.

Also, I have been looking at a "Super steering rebuild kit" for about $90 on Ebay that fits "all with the Ross steering assembly with the 5/8" bolt", Does my 882D have this? Thanks.

Yes, you can use the 782 Chassis service manual and the engine manual for the 782D and 882. The 782D and 882 are the same tractor painted differently.

I'm not sure what that "super steering rebuild kit" includes that costs $90....That thrust bearing is about $3, and the nut is less than $1. Even if you bought that and 4 heim joints from mcmaster-carr, that is still nowhere near $90. The 882 will have that steering column, but that sounds like a ripoff to me. The bearings, nuts, and heim joints to do 4 tractors probably barely cost $90...

keep getting requests for rebuild parts for the Ross steering assemblies for the Cub Cadets & John Deere Garden Tractors so I decide to package one that will work on all garden tractors with the exception of the Originals & some of the early Cubs that has the barrell shaped retainer/seal kit. These usually have the white nylon split bearing at the top of the tube.

This kit will also work on the early John Deere's with the 5/8" lever plate bolt.

This kit contains both bearing cups, both sets of ball bearings, a cam follower stud , a retainer gasket & both of my steering upgrades ( ball bearing upper bearing & seal + the ball thrust bearing, machine washers & nylon jam nut to reduce steering effort. New OEM Cub Cadet parts except for the upgrades which are new but not from Cub Cadet.

You get every thing pictures plus the directions!!!!!

I just spent 5.00 for the bearing for the top of the column near the steering wheel, to replace the plastic bushing,and 12.00 for a seal kit.I bought a super steer kit a while back and all it had was the bearing and locking nut for 12.00,before i new i could buy them so cheap seperate.I bought a new foam seal for the top of the bearing by the steering wheel for 4.00 and will be buying a repair kit for 27.00 witch will include 2 bearings and 2 bearing cups!! I didnt need the cam follower stud but could get it for 35.00. So If i go by what i individualy bought (not from a cub dealer)and included the cam follower stud the deal on greed bay is pretty good!!This stuff might be cheaper from a cub dealer,I bought all my stuff from a sponsor of a site.

I had priced rebuilding my steering gearbox and it was pushing 100.00 with a new cam follower.

That's quite a bit more stuff than the one I had found in a quick ebay search...the one I found consisted of the bearing, locknut, and 2 washers...
