New to me 122 in Missouri
Hey everyone. My grandpa just gave me a 122 with a 42" deck. While it is in need of some TLC it's in a lot better shape then some of the beginings of projects I have seen here.
Currently I'm having a problem with the mower deck. I think it just needs new spindles. It will turn about 3 or 4 times real slow and then lock up. There is nothing tangled up in the deck. Anywho I can't wait to get my hands dirty and start learning. Looks like a great place here. |

Sounds to me like one of the spindles is dry and binding up. Good luck.

Drop the deck and remove the belt and figure out wich one it is. make shure there all nice and tight in the bearings, no slop side to side. There not that hard to rebuild if you have the right sized wrench I think its 1 1/4 and a breaker bar to get the blade off. If you look around on here there is a NAPA part # for the bearing. Deck parts like springs and tensioners are easy to find on E-bay for most of the time thats all thats left of an old deck after they get rusty.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
