1811 or 1872 need advice
Hi guys and gals. I know I have old iron disease. The signs are 1978 dodge power wagon sitting in the side yard. 1922 south bend lathe, pulled apart and painted this winter.
My dad gave me his 1811. It had gas in the oil and he gave up on it. Got her all fixed up and gave her some TLC. He can't believe it's the same tractor. She has 900 plus hours on the broke clock. I found a 1872 with 300 plus hours on the clock. She lives four hours drive(one way) away. I can't keep both. My wife would hang me from my own deer stand. Another disease. I'm thinking get the 1872 and sell the 1811 to help offset the money. Can't save them all not enough room. Whats a guy to do? Words of wisdom? Thanks Clay |

Well, if you have no partiality to the 1811...The 1872 is a super garden tractor with power steering!

I agree, if the 1811 isn't sentimental to you, I'd also go for the 1872! You can't beat a super!

1872's are great , but they are bigger than your 1811. Most of the time they have a 50" or 60" deck on them , but you can put other size decks on them.
If you have alot to mow and want to be comfortable doing it , get the 1872. The 1811 is the same thing as the 1872 except bigger and no power steering and will do just about anything the 1872 will do. 300+ hrs is low hrs. If the condition is nice and the price is good and you can justify the bigger size , get the SGT. Then tell your wife no one was interested in your 1811 when you tried to sell it . |

I agree with everyone else's comments. All depends on the size of your yard and what you're looking to do with your cub. The SGT is nice as well as the power steering. If there's no sentimental attachment to the 1811, send her down the road and go for the 1872. 300 hours is very low for a 25 year old tractor. Good luck, keep us posted, and we love pics!

1872
Even if your yard is smaller the 1872 turning radius is better and smoother. My vote is for the super. And maybe your pops will buy his old 1811 back from you and keep it in the family. Just a thought.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
