Default 782D Muffler fab question

Hi All,

I need a muffler for my diesel and I would like to make one out of stainless since only half of my muffler remains (the entire front portion is gone, see line on pic).

So, could someone provide some measurements for me?

Thanks,
Bob

You still needing dimensions? I think I have a 782D muffler in storage with a d600 out of a 782d. Its all crated up but I am planning on going there this weekend to have a look and see what I am missing.

Bob, I saw this when you originally posted and wanted to help you but my 882 was not at my house. Its home now and I forgot about your question but if you still need these dimensions, let me know, I can help you now.

Yes, I could still use the dimensions. I'm starting with a stainless car muffler (glass pack). I'll have to take some pics when I start cutting it down but the O.D. is about the same as the Kubota muffler. The inlet/outlets are 2 1/2 right now so I'll have to shrink those down somehow (I'm thinking some pie-shaped cuts will do it.

I have some 1 1/2 SS tubing so I'm hoping it's about the same size as the nipple that sticks out the front. I would like to have it look somewhat stock but polished and I'll paint the original heat shield black.

Not sure how quiet it will be when done but it's got to be quieter than it is now. I just can't see the prices the mufflers for these bring on e-pay. I was just watching a USED one and it went for over $100.

Not a chance, I love this tractor and it's not too noisy with my ear muffs

I bought it for $100.00 a couple years ago. It was not running but it was an easy fix, the fuel had gelled and it wasn't getting enough to run on. I cleaned the tank, replaced the lines and filter and it's ran great since. I finally decided to fix it up a little this year so I upgraded the starter to the gear reduction one and I'm in the process of rebuilding the deck. It needs a paint job some time but for now it will have to wait.

Thanks for the responses!

Well haven't had time to start the muffler yet but I snapped a pic of the one I'm starting with. It's a stainless glass pack my brother in law took off of his truck.

Yea, the tractor is ugly but I like her anyway. I hope to slowly get it cleaned up so it looks decent but it will remain a worker.

You can't really see from this pic, but most of the muffler is GONE.

And here's why I didn't get started on the muffler. Figured I should finish this project before starting another one. It's a 50'' deck that was sand blasted, primed with epoxy and painted with some cheap white from tractor supply. Got some runs in it but this is no show tractor and will/has seen a lot of work.

I coated the underside of it with Herculiner. I know some of you don't like it because grass tends to stick but I'm more concerned with it rotting.

I still need to put the new bearings and seals in once the paint hardens a bit but then I'll start on the muffler.

FWIW:
You might temporarily try sticking the SS muffler on the head pipe before going to all the modifying work.
If the muffler ID is larger than the inlet pipe you will get little sound reduction.
A short glass pack, does little to reduce noise.
Also, I don't know your welding skills, but SS is not easily welded by a novice.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
