I've had plans to take my upper hose off and go to AutoZone, NAPA, O'Reilly's, etc. to see if they could come up with a close visual match. Has anyone already done this?

Let us know what you find. The upper hose on mine is hard as a rock and probably isn't long for this world. It may be hard to find something close from a car, as most cars don't have 1" radiator hoses. Don't forget to add some insulation to the new hose where it was on the original one.

For the insulation, I thought about getting some of that self-adhesive thermal foil wrap with some kind of fire-proof padding inside. |

I have a good friend that works on small engines for the city he lives in so he has some pretty good connections with his parts people. He took my hose with him into a warehouse and just walked around checking hoses until he found a match. Almost identical and it works just perfect. Ill call him in the morning to see which place he got it at.
Ill second that notion on the insulation. Its a must do if you are going to be running your engine long and hard.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
