Default 1872 cub cadet

I am going to look at a 1872 tonight. The guy wants 500. b/o. It has a 50" deck and the only issue is the pto won't engage. He said there is a new carb on it, also. The newest cub I have is the 782D and am not very familiar with these. Can someone tell me what these go for? Is there any issues with these tractors? I see it has indendent brakes

The 1872 is a Super Garden Tractor. If the person wants $500.00 for a SGT, I am thinking it's a steal.

I just picked it up for 450. Has a real nice 50" deck. This thing is huge. It runs good, no smoke or knocks, seals are not leaking, but it surges and almost idles out of control. He said he rebuilt the carb. It sounds like a governor issue to me. I'll have to read up on it because this tractor is new to me. Thanks for your advice. Any suggestions on the surging I would appreciate it.

I have several carbs from the single cylinder kohlers. Will any of these work on the m-18? I don't like that fixed jet carb either. I never had one but I don't like the idea I can't adjust it.

I think you can use a #26 carb with the throttle and choke shafts from the Walbro.

GOOD NEWS! I believe I ruled out that the internal part of governor is the problem. I loosened the governor arm from the shaft and set it the way the manual instructed. It worked. The governor now works just the way it should. It still idles a little rough. I know if it was an adjustable carbureator I could smooth it out but there is no adjusting except that idle adjustment which does not do much. How do identify a #26 carb? Are they stamped? I have several carbs from the k series engines but am not sure what number they are.

Anyway, I really appreciate all your help. It is great having a resource like this.

Look inside the throat of the carb past the choke butterfly. You will see either a 26 or a 30 cast into the body. You can't miss it.
