I found this to be interesting
"The Cub Cadet brand began as International Harvester's garden tractor line, which was sold to MTD in 1981. In 1993, Mitsubishi compact tractors were imported into North America under the Cub Cadet brand. In 2006, MTD and Yanmar entered an agreement to sell Yanmar compact tractors under the Cub Cadet Yanmar brand. The agreement with Yanmar was modified in 2011, and Yanmar America assumed full control over the tractors. At that time the Cub Cadet name was dropped from compact tractors". Its a shame what MTD did to the CUB CADET line

It is my understanding that the change only involves the SCUT tractors, not the regular GT and lawn series. Cub Cadet still has it's name.

Yes, very true there, but with MTD it has always been about the bottom line $$$$.

I agree. We have a new one and it is nothing like the real cub cadets. IMHO (which I might get heckled for) they started going downhill when they started putting plastic hoods and fenders on them.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
