The BRS Replacement
Brought home the replacement today. My daughter and I made a trip up to Hamilton, OH and picked up this nice 1711. It's not perfect, but I am going to do like Lew does and clean it up and use it like it is. The motor 'is' a series II. The hydro is tight and responsive and smooth, no creeping. The brake actually holds nice and tight. I'll get some more pics once I get the tins cleaned and waxed. The hub caps are rusty. The fronts are the worst, the rears mostly some surface rust. I'll have to find out how to clean these up. I'll be going to NAPA tomorrow to get plugs, filters, oil, etc. and do some maintenance on it before mowing in a few days. The deck is a very nice solid 44C, the baffles are complete, the blades need some work and sharpening. I'll probably pull the fender pan and tins and degrease and clean, and check out the trunion, and the fabric discs on the drive shaft and bushings.

Nice looking 1711. Just some steel wool and chrome polish is what I use. Your auto store might have something better. Are the 1711s pretty rare? Don't see too many.
