Default drive shaft repairs to the 1811

I have had a oil leak on the hydro input shaft and the new seal came today. I pulled the covers and was starting to take it apart when I noticed the engine end of the shaft was not running centered. got all the bolts out of the flex disks and drove the roll pins out of the rear couplers and slid them forward. this allows the drive shaft to come out as a unit. here are some pics of what i found.

1 is the flex disk from the engine end. bolt hole at top was tore out.

2 is the coupling on the hydro the bearing goes in, I think I can save it with a new bearing.

3 is the engine flange, bearing or whats left of it. and the end of drive shaft.

4 is the hydro end before I unbolted it all. this is the seal that is leaking on the front of the hydro.

if anyone has a drive shaft that will fit a 1811 send me a pm.

now just to order parts and wait a few more days, not a good time of year to be down. I will post more pics of changing the seal on the hydro as I do it.

If the rear coupler wobbles at all on the input shaft, it needs replacing, too. I'd be surprised if it didn't, given the condition of the rest of the parts.

I agree with Matt and I wouldn't buy a used drive shaft. They are easy to make. I use a POS $50 drill press and some 5/8 rod from McMaster-Carr. My 1811 looked just like that before I replaced everything but the shaft ends and now I can set a full beverage on the tunnel cover at full throttle and nothing spills. Good luck!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
