Time for some grass cuttin!!
Well as some of you know, I made a long road trip last weekend up to NJ and back to NC in 2.5 days. The trip was for some business, but on my own time, I had the pleasure of stopping in the little town of Manalapan NJ. I met up with a member from another tractor forum and we worked a deal on this sweet little baby!
Its a Mott Hammer Knife Mower, also known as a flail mower. It was said to run, but poorly. I was able to see some pics before I got there so I halfway knew what I was in for. The seller was younger feller in college that had bought another toy and didnt need this one anymore. As soon as I got out of the truck I knew I was in love. Then he cranked it and it ran pretty good in my opinion. Surged a bit at high idle but everything was there and worked properly. The knives are in great shape, and after further researching, I found that these were available with short or long knives, for rough or finsh cuts respectively. I got the long knives which I would prefer to have. Basically Ill be able to mow my yard with this unit behind the golf cart.  8hp Briggs and I think the engine serial number dates it back to 78. I hooked it up today and it fired right up. Did a little adjusting on the carb and took it to my neighbors side yard that has grown up. One pass and I knew this baby was the ticket. Only one pass because I ran out of gas. I did get some pics of it though and Im really happy with my new addition to the fleet! ENOUGH rambling...heres the proof.

     The grass was so high, I couldnt even see that bag of trash. Coolest thing about it, it wont sling anything more than about a foot behind the mower. It just kind of drops everything it cuts instead of slinging it.

Nice looking Mott.I have the same one. It is a T 38.Do you have the rubber grommet on the tow bar?Mine is missing the motor but the unit is NOS.and has the 52 blades for mowing.Up here we call that town man a lapan. If you need a parts manual I have a pdf of one. Buy the way what is that blue thing in front of the mott?

I would love to have that pdf manual. Thanks! You'll have to excuse the working tractor in the pictures. Im running very low on Cub Cadets right now, but looking for another one. My 882 is sick with a wiring problem and I havent had the slightest bit of time to work on it.

Great looking flail. I have a 7 1/2 foot JD that I get out when the weeds get out of control, or I run out of "play time" and got to get it done.
 I got some time to cut with this last weekend.  Almost as much fun as a flail!! It has a Cub cadet gas tank and carb!!  All the colors can be FUN!!   Oh, yea, that is a 15 year old Rust Oleum paint job!
