Default Model 72... With a ??? motor?

Found this tractor locally. I'm going to go have a look at it. Looks like a lot of PO mods on it. Owner didn't tell me much about it. Doesn't look like it has anything special... However, can anyone tell.... the motor sure doesn't look like a 7hp to me. Looks a lot bigger. Price is reasonable, and I will prob just do some repairs and flip/trade it. Comments?

Jonathan,
By the picture, it does have the big air cleaner which I believe is incorrect if it's a 7 hp. Also looks by the rear tires that a younger feller had his mitts on it.
Also it looks like the control cables are ran along the left side of the dash tower. And something don't look right by the battery box, but can't say for certain from the pic. And the seat for sure isn't correct, but if the price is right, and your willing to do some work on it, could br a good tractor, or fast flip

I'm right there with you on all that you listed, Todd. I noticed the throttle cables too, and as far as the battery box, I think maybe it has a motorcycle battery in it. They said it runs, but smokes.... Glad someone else agrees that the motor, or at least the air cleaner doesn't look right. Just a wild hair guess from the pic, but I'm thinking it has a 10hp in it....

What I'm seeing in the battery box is a lack of sides, like there either cut out or I've seen where the PO bent them down to get in a car battery.
Also the clutch cover screen is missing to.

Hey, you never know what you might get until you go see it. You might be surprised to find that you have a larger engine than you thought for the money, or a spring assist, or a tiller gearbox on the back. Besides, it looks like it could use some TLC. Good luck and let us know if you land it.

I see it comes with a very rare dual wheel seat. Those are not very common at all.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
