You're going to get a LOT of the same answer on what fluid to run in your tranny, and that same answer is going to be hy-tran. And before you research for hours, the biggest thing that separates hy-tran from other tranny fluids is it's ability to trap and encapsulate moisture, that's probably what that sludge you cleaned out was. Only downside is hy-tran is pretty expensive.
As far as engine oil, SAE 30 is what you're going to want (as long as it's not below freezing). I use low-ash CC SAE 30 oil from my dealer because it's readily and easily available, runs me about $13 per oil change (that's for 2 quarts). If that's not available, just find some SAE 30 from a reputable brand, a lot of people recommend Shell Rotella SAE 30 and I may switch to that during my next oil change cycle because it's cheaper price wise, I can get it at Wally World by the gallon, and the quality is there. Hope this helps, and good luck. Oh, btw, my charge is pics of your machine ![]() ![]()

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
