I have a 374 haban 60" deck on a early 1782. the 94" belt it calls for is too long, for some reason. I ordered a 92 to try, but it wont be in til tomorrow. its got 4" pulleys on the mule drive, and a 6" pulley on the deck. any ideas as to why the stock one is too long? the adjustment was all the way out and it was slipping some.

Go to Tractor Supply with your old belt match it up and get the next 2 smaller size Kevlar belts try them on and use the one that fits best and return the other one. My guess is the PTO, mule drive or the pulley on the deck have been replaced at some point by the PO and they may be the wrong size.

Something is amiss as I use the 94's from TS...
Is the hanger system correct? How far forward are the quick attachments forks going into the support hangers? These are the front eyebolt looking things... |

they stick out about an inch in the front of the little hanger loops.
there is actually grooves in the front of the bracket from the pulley rubbing it from the belt being too loose. looking at partstree schematics it almost looks like the hanger brackets are for the newer deck. but the mule drive has the smaller 4" pulleys of the early setup. the later ones show to have 5 1/4 pulleys. the deck is about an inch from the rear tires so it can't really go back any further. I just went to tractor supply and the next smallest belt they was a 90, and they were out of it. still waiting on the 92 I ordered from the parts store.

OK first you have the deck mounted in the wrong holes at the rear. The pin goes in the rear holes. That is going to move the deck forward. Yeah I know the belt is already too long and this is going to make that even worse. Next you have an early Haban and I'm guessing that the pulley on the deck is the small one. You are going to need to measure the diameter of both the center deck pulley and the PTO. One we get it set up as it should be then we can worry about the belt.

I know I have seen that belt spec at 94 inches but im pretty sure the correct size is 93 inches. That's what I have bought in the past and I just noticed mine on the 2072 is starting to fray so I will b buying another from "v belts for less" .com. like $18 plus shipping. I went with the Kevlar one last time and it lasted about two or three yrs mowing 3 acres every week. Dave

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
