Welcome to OCC!
It is a 106. 106's were made from 69-71 but without the serial tag it is hard to pinpoint it anymore then that.
Check the serial # on the engine.

Hey Mike, couldn't it be a 126 also?
Is there an identifier I'm missing? Just askin.

If someone swapped out the 12hp for a 10hp it's possible it could be a 126.

Hey Jonathan,

I was just going off of it's current state how it sits. With a 10hp and a gear it is a 106. Without the serial number tag we will never know for sure. Yeah, it could be a 126 but not as it sits is what I'm saying. To my knowledge I don't think there were any other identifiers to differentiate the two.

Being it has a 48" deck, and the engine yellow is not as faded as the rest of the tractor, it might be a 126 with a replacement 10hp.

Were 48" decks routinely put on 10hp 1x6's ?

The 48" deck was available on the 106. It's hard to say how many were equipped with one.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
