Default Hello Again...

Havent been here awhile after selling my 1862 but...

Been looking for a small K-series to repower my Bolens RaM and found this one sitting in an interesting cart... I think... its a Cub Original.. or was at some point in time, unfortunately its missing almost everything

I was in a hurry on my way to work so didnt have time to get much info, seller said he got it from a friend and has been using it to pull the kids tabbogan until the clutch started having issues, no other parts with it, he said the 8hp K runs well so I gave him $100.

Couldnt find a serial plate on it so the stamp on the frame is all I got, havent even unloaded it from the trailer yet

couple more pics on dropbox

Welcome back,

Yup that's an "O" the serial number will be stamped into the right hand side of the gear reduction housing near the plug (gear reduction housing is between the frame and the transmission).

Originals are one of my favorites, even though nearly every part is different from it's relatives.

Step back a little and lets see the whole machine.

thx.. think I'll nickname it a "Half an O"... or Cub Cadet 0.5... lol

didnt the dropbox link work for you Yosimite Sam??

as you can see by my meager post count... I didnt really care much for the 1862, nice enough machine did a great cut, but Im getting to be an old timer myself and I like old machines.

fyi.. I live on an old farmstead in Alberta, 25+ yrs as a metal fabricator, workin a mon-thurs night shift, always have too many projects on the go, active on several forums.

So now the question is what I do with a Half an 0? I have a couple extra larger K-series engines around, 10-14hp, I can build bodywork and fabricate lifts and mounts for attachments but dont really need anything specific at the moment... any suggestions?

No... I wont give it to you

Congrats on finding the O!

I'd be interested to know the serial number when you get a chance. I don't see a hole for the creeper shifter. Not exactly sure what that means, does that make it an early one? I only looked cause someone else brought it up in an O post a while back.

No sorry, I've got dial-up and stuff like that "times out" before it loads...

Thanks for the pictures.

Yes the grill is expanded steel but it has funny shapes, surly someone will have pictures.

If you're looking for a grill shell, I have several and I'd sell one pretty cheap if someone needed one.

Im not ready to start looking for too many parts because Ive got a couple projects ahead of the O... but if the price was right I might buy a grill shell, how much?

Dont think I should be too concerned about finding oem parts unless I come across a more complete tractor to work with, this is a nice rolling chassis but it is all I have to work with at this point, I might put up a kijiji ad to see if that will find me something of interest.

an very close up pic of the expanded metal in the grill would be appreciated if somebody has or can take one...pls and thx

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
