Super difference from standard Cubs:
  • Longer Frame
  • Larger front and rear wheels
  • Generally speaking, a more powerful engine
  • Taller stance
  • Wider Stance
  • Rear PTO Optional as well as 3PT Hitch
  • Standard power steering and dual brakes (except for the IH built 982's, optional on those)

Also, for reference, here is a list of all Super's:
982 Onan
984 Onan
986 Onan
1572 Kubota D 600 diesel
1772 Kubota D 640 diesel
1872 Kohler Mag18
1912 Onan
1914 Onan
2072 Kohler M20

Cyclops series
1782 Kubota D 640 diesel
1882 Kohler Mag18
2086 Kawasaki FD620D
2082 Kohler Mag20
2182 Kubota WG-600 gas
2084 Kohler CH20
2284 Kohler CH22

Hope this helps

I didn't list it as an option because it was also an option on some standard GT's

Edit: But I added it anyway

Edit 2: Also forgot to add the 1512 to the list, doh! Added now.

Default what makes a super?

Thanks for the info--very helpful. I bought a 1650 years ago and finally let our daughter and her family have it, still going strong. I just bought a 2284- haven't got it home yet. I had not heard of a "super garden tractor". If it give as good of service as the old 1650 i'll be tickled. I think it will be good for my grandkids to us mowing here on the place. Thanks again. I'll attempt to send some pictures when I get it home next week.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
