I was stumbling around the net and run into the 184 Lo-Boy (77-80). IH used the 'big tractor look' on the lo-boy 2 years ahead of the 82's (1979 - 1985).
It is only 18hp but weighs in at 1620lbs. It would be awesome with a set of ag's on the back and tri-ribs on the front. The images I found had turf tires and mowers. Nor did I notice any evidence of hydraulic ports on the front or rear. There is at least one company making fiberglass grills and grill shells. It seems this tractor has become desirable and people are modifying other cubs (185 maybe) to look like it. Looking is free. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The place my cousin works has a 184 like the one pictured, it has a spun bearing and instead of fixing it correctly the just keep putting a new bearing in it every couple months. Its a real shame to because its in like new condition otherwise.

The yellow and white paint scheme like our CC's is definitely out there. I'm not sure what the cutoff is for the paint schemes but my dad has 3 lo-boy's; one red and two yellow and white.

Cub Lo-Boy 184, a late 70's tractor that only came in Red. But that is not what I wanted to say. I was trying to point the 184 out as an example of IH's use of 'big tractor' styling and color prior to the 82's. When people see 'Red Cub Cadet' the big tractor styling comes to mind, that it is my logic behind using 'Red Cub'. I like the proportions of this tractor. |

I should have said.......I never seen a 184 in any other color than red.
I do realize previous Cubs could be either red or yellow & white.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
