Default My 72 restoration

Here are some pics of my 72 that I just finished. I still have a few details to add like a hydraulic lift which also have rear access ports to run a hydraulic dump trailer.

Sorry, no in process photos. I'm not really good at that. But I do have before and after.

This tractor was in ok condition when I bought it. It ran, but smoked really bad. The engine had been replaced once before because it was a K181. I had to have it bored out .020 and the crank journal ground. I also had to shave the top of the block to clean it up good enough to seal. I would estimate that I removed .020-.040 from the head and block. I ported and polished the intake port too. Not sure how much this helped on this little engine, I just know it all helped on the K301 and K321 that I had done in the past.

This will be a worker as are all of my tractors. I will use this one for cultivating the garden, pulling trailers, spreading fertilizer and spraying weeds, as well as joy riding around the neighborhood.

Oh, forgot to mention the fenders, ags and tri-ribs. The stack is something I'm trying out on this one. It is a 2" elbow with a baffle inside. It sounds just about right, a little quieter than the original muffler and a deeper thump.

It looks GREAT, but.... It's actually a 71 with that nose and hood. A 72 would also have QA mount on the front. I wonder if a PO had put the wrong decals on at some point?

I hope I didn't ruin your day.

EDIT: cubby102 beat me. If your heart is broken, I can help you get rid of it.

I thought it may be a 71 too with that grill, but I looked at pics of both and the grill is old style and the nose front support matches my 125 so I don't know. I like the way it looks. The s/n says it's a '67 so I don't know.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
