Default 1862 Pto Pulley Question
I do not know what the pto is supposed to fit that was on my 1862 but it was not correct for the tractor. Besides not fitting right the pulley was larger. The old pulley was 5.25 in diameter and the correct pto I just installed is right at 4.50in. My question is will the smaller pulley speed up the blades? I always thought they were a little slow and this is probally the reason. My old brain can not seem to remember but I thought a smaller pulley on one end would increase belt speed.

Smaller pulley on the PTO end will slow down the blades.

The early 1862's used a smaller PTO pulley with the various mowers available for it. The late 1862's used the large pulley with the 48" & 54" decks.

If you have the 48" & 54" deck and use the small PTO, it will cut grass but won't really spin the deck up like it should.

Thanks guys! The one that is on it has a three point mount and does not mount flush to the closure plate. It sticks out so far the belt barely cleared the frame. The one I am going with came off the 1541 parts machine and bolts up as it should. It is the same as what is on the 1811. I am going to try it first because it looks fairly new. If it does not work I can switch later.

Interesting topic. Are the pulleys swapable on the PTO'S? I have the 54" GT deck and want to use on the Magnum Supers GT's currently equipped with the 4.5".

I would like to swap the bigger pulley from a 2284-

NO. The PTO's are, but not the pulleys.

Thanks Jonathan,

I suppose swapping the whole PTO is no big deal. My 1872 and 2082 are my workers rite now while the 2284 getting tore down. that'll be another thread someday.

There was a crankshaft size change somewhere along the line. You may need a bushing to make it all work. I can't remember when it was, and I'm not where I can look. Just search the parts books. You can figure it out if you look.
