Heat gun to get the decals off and rubbing alcohal to remove the adhesive, its a slow process but it won't damage the paint.

Until I bought a remover tool I used a heat gun or hair dryer then cleaned it up with Glue remover or lacquer thinner. This is on metal bodies not plastic. I would think the same would work on the plastic but not use too much heat.

The glue remover we used was a 3m product sold at NAPA. We now use a slow speed pneumatic grinder that uses a rubber wheel to take them off. Best tool ever! NAPA sells the same type wheels to use in a drill but you have to use a slow speed.

You could try wd-40, not good for much else! Lol

I got a bottle of adhesive remover at O'Reilly's called Goo Gone. Put some on a clean rag wiped the adhesive with it. It took a little rubbing, very little and everything cleaned right up. Counter kid tried to sell me a can of airisol adhesive remover at the price of $20. The Goo Gone cost me $2.99

I've been redoing old JD's for several years and I use a heat gun and WD 40 for the remainder of the adhesive. It works on 40 year decals and if I need to I use one of those Bondo spreaders made of plastic for the decal since it wont leave any marks.
