Trailering Cubs w/o damage?

After a few attempts to move some of my restored cubs on my flatbed trailer, I still struggle with the best tie-down technique. I usually use wide nylon strap ratchet tie-downs, but always wonder where to best place them on the tractors to avoid damaging the paint, bending the sheet metal, etc. Right now I am running the straps over the foot pads and under the frame, from side to side.

I've recently thought that a single turnbuckle under each tractor, that pulled the tractor straight down to the bed of the trailer would be ideal.

How do you guys transport your cubs to shows, etc, w/o damaging them?

I have a buddy that cuts strips of cardboard to put between straps and paint, usually over the tunnel.

in the auto transport business i used axle straps made from nylon,or basket straps that covered the tires and were secured to the truck with d rings welded midway up the bed. i have hauled anything from a model a to a $500,000 dollar porsche,so being careful is the key. you might try looking at AW Direct to see what kind of straps they offer,maybe even motorcycle tie downs would work.

It's been my experience that you want to pull forward and backward at the same time. Or be up against the front bulkhead and pull the tractor tight against it. You can use these motorcycle straps to wrap around the front and rear axle to avoid damage, then hook a regular ratchet strap to them to the trailer. One on each corner pulling out and away would lock it down.

It's only a cub, so I'm sure one in the front and one in the back with a strap across the trailer through the loops would be sufficient. Just remember to orient the strap so it is pulling front and back (like a banana shape), if you just go straight across, the tractor will roll front/back.

I use heavy duty MC tie downs. 2 on the front and 2 on the back.
