My Kohler went kaput last weekend and looking to replace the engine. I have looked at Smallenginewarehouse.com & they no longer have a Honda kit for it, they told me the Hondas run hot & Honda doesn't make stuff for this kit any longer, and all they have is the Vangaurd series from Briggs & Stratton. I have thought about finding a Kohler Command & make it work, and have thought about the B&S kit to replace. Opinions....?
Also while I'm at it, why not give it a little more HP, SEW has B&G kits for other Cub Cadets in 23 hp versions, will they work in the 682? These for example says it is for a Cub Cadet 1811, 1812, 1860, 1861, 1862, 1872, 1882: http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/...tegory=1709590 Are they the same as the 682 only more power? Looks like the shaft is different though. I have been reading posts here about engine swaps, just looking for some more opinions. Thanks Scot |

The bigger engine will work. The other listed tractors are the same style.

Harbor freight has a Honda clone. It can be made to work, if you can do a little fabricating.

It goes along with pretty much every car I have ever owned. I have converted 3 of them to fuel injection & more power. Current project, 1986 Monte Carlo SS, stock has 180 hp carbed 305 5.0L, converting it to a 450ish HP 6.0L LS2.

I put a 20HP Vanguard in my 782. Easy swap.

Let's hear more about the Monte. I've got an '88 SS here, and a 383 with AFR heads and a roller cam sitting on the hoist. It needs EFI bad.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
