![]() ![]() Was replacing transmission fluid on my 1512. Had a couple partial gal jugs on the shelf. IMG_3629a.jpg Didn't have enough fluid so I picked up more. Since I have another tractor I need to change fluid I went with the 5 gal bucket. IMG_3630a.jpg As I started to fill the funnel I notice the new bucket was not reddish in color like I was expecting. IMG_3631a.jpg I was able to dump a little out of empty container and yes they were different colors. IMG_3632a.jpg Has anyone experienced this? Has cub cadet changed their fluids? |

There are two (2) different Cub Cadet Hydraulic Transmission Fluids. One for the older Cubs (Hytran) and one for the newer Cubs (a synthetic blend).
I can't see by your pictures, but it appears you are mixing the two together.

I don't know but if that is the oil that came out of the 2 containers shown I would think they should be the same. I haven't used Hytran in a few years but IIRC the last I used had the red color to it but I know they changed from Hytran to Hytran Ultra a while ago. Did you call your dealer and ask them?

Nope. I went through this a while back with J-mech, will try to find the pics.
Some Hytran is reddish Some Hytran is brown Same stuff (at least, both from dealer and both in same container). Let me see if I can dig up the pics/post Here it is, the middle of this thread: http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...t=36652&page=2 |

I wouldn't worry about it either. I'm sure it will work fine.

The labels on the two containers are identical. They are both the regular fluid.
They have the same temperature range. Yes I mixed fluids since I have one gal of the cub cadet fluid with the red color. I added just over 1/2 gal of the clearish cub cadet fluid. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
