Not sure if this one's been asked before.
In your honest opinion What was the best Cub Cadet ever made? Is there one that stands out from all the rest ?

You might as well have asked who is the most beautiful woman there ever was.

The 1450 was probably the best worker I ever had with all the Cubs I have owned. But you haven't lived till you drive a 169.

The best one would be the one that was bought by a dealer or collector and has been stored in a climate controlled environment since it was purchased and hasn't had enough light on it to cause the paint to fade.

![]() I don't really have much to compare, but from what I've seen I think the QL look the best. Clean lines, but still kept a rugged garden tractor look. IMO the best Cub is one that works day in day out without any needed repairs. I'm still trying to get one of those

The best Cub Cadet is when you have more than one! That way, you can use the best one for each situation.
Or to get you by while the other one is awaiting repair...

Going to be honest and say it depends on what you do, what you want, and how confident you are in your mechanical abilities..
When I first started getting into the hobby and learning about the mechanical side of the tractors, I tackled narrow-frames. Simple, easy to work on --and parts are affordable and available. Now I'm moving up. I own an 86, 169, and an 1812 --and I have to say that they're all brutes, but the 1812 is the best I've owned when it comes to operator comfort and confidence in the machine. Now I'm on the prowl for a 982, 1572, 1872, or 2072.

Just my 2 cents but I don't think that there is a "Best Cub". I have 3 favorites, the Original, the 1864 and the 2284. I guess the answer you'll get is the one that you own although I don't own an 1864 or a 2284 at the moment.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
