Default Yard roller size?

Local scrap yard has a few air compressor tanks that I was thinking of making a yard roller. One is a 30 gallon tank, another is 60 gallon, 3rd is bigger than 60 but not sure what size. I was thinking 30 is too small. What's your thoughts?

My roller is 48 inches wide and 24 inches tall. It weighs 920 pounds when full of water. I pull it with a IH Cub Cadet 100.

Just like pulling any other kind of load.

Depending on the lay of your land, don't try to pull more of a load than you can stop.

Water is 10 lbs per gallon, a 600 lb'er is prob as small as you'd want to go. I like the 900 lb size for a good effective roll. The 600lb'er could be good if you built it such that you had a top platform to load it with more weight such as blocks. Merck's 48" X 24" is perfect.

Too much weight wouldn't be a problem unless.........................

You have some hilly areas that could push/jacknife your tractor.

Your tractor's brakes don't work well. See above.

Your tractor has the spot brakes in the differential. You break a spirol pin in the drive line and you take off down the hill. You hit the brakes only to find out with those kind of brakes, one wheel rotates backwards and the other forward. In the meantime, hang on. Or jump before you pick up too much speed.

PS. I have a safety chain from the roller axles up to the hitch in case something broke. I'm all hills here. My roller weighs about 5-600 lbs and if it got away from the tractor, it could take out a car in the driveway, house or garage.

My mistake. I work in Imperial and metric. Should have converted to US gallons.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
