I have a dilemma and need your input. My dad bought this 1000 new in March of 1977. It has about a gazillion hours on it mostly from my sisters and I mowing grass. It is not as shiny as I would like. It runs great, engine mounts are relatively new and the clutch is sound. I rebuilt the engine about 15 yrs ago and it was parked in the barn because my sister preferred the Simplicity. Should I make it pretty again....
OR Take this little 72 that has seen it's better days and rebuild it. This 72 is like the first Cub Cadet my father purchased in 1968 or 1969. I learned to drive on one like this. I want to have a commemorative plaque and dealer stickers made for each of the tractors with my fathers name. Should be fun! OK guys help me decide which project to start first.

IMHO, I'd restore the 72 first.

The 1000 still looks good! Plus it has the original patina and the scars that you, your dad and sisters put on it!
In my opinion id leave it alone because it tells a story like it is.. Go for the 72 first! ![]() ![]() Just my thoughts... your tractors so it is your choice! ![]() ![]() Keep us posted!

Are you able to powder coat stuff with the correct shade of IH yellow or IH 935 white? You did a fantastic job on the wheels for the 800 and rear wheels for the 1000.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
