Default Sleeve hitch adapter mounting bracket help 1440

Hi

I picked up a Brinly Seeve Hitch adapter from Ebay that came with a mounting bracket that doesn't bolt onto my 1440. it seems to be the same fit as the one in the following photo. But the bolt pattern on my 1440 is a little wider and more V shaped. So the bracket cannot possibly fit it. Does anyone have an idea on what I might need to solve this issue Besides just ordering the Xtreme bracket? I now have two identical brackets. Neither of which will fit. And It would be nice to save a little $$$ and get one of these on there. Thanks!

I believe your 1440 has an aluminum rear end, the bracket in your picture is for a cast iron rear.

You need the bracket for an aluminum rear, don't know for sure but I don't think they are quite as common as the others.

If he sent it to me, could I just drill the holes in the correct location or is that asking for trouble?

I'd have to go look to be sure, but I don't think the "cast iron" style bracket is tall enough to cover the upper and lower holes on an aluminum rear end.

You need one of these for the rear end.

Sorry but I must be slow these days. Now it makes sense. The aluminum brackets have two holes in the top and two in the bottom to fit my transmission. Like in this photo.

So get one that has the ears on it.

Any idea what to use for the pin that holds the sleeve adapter to the bracket?

Well.... that won't fit your 1440 because the 1440 has an aluminum rear end, and the sleeve hitch lower bracket is made to fit a cast iron rear end.

You have two choices:
1.) Order a bracket made for an aluminum rear end from xtreme Make sure to buy the one with "ears" on it that attach to the axle.
2.) Drill holes in the one you have and make it bolt on. Now, that said, unless you weld some on, it won't have any ears on it to attach to the axle. Aluminum won't hold up to the stress well without the extra ears, you may pull the threads out of the holes without them, in which case you will have to either heli-coil the threads or replace the rear end depending on how bad it breaks..... and then you will be back where you started.

Choice is yours. Pony up, or fabricate.

Not really Deja Vu. But a realization that I never arrived at until now. I was under the assumption that the first bracket was for earlier Cubs. But apparently my lack of knowledge on all this is still biting my wallet. I haven't seen a single photo of a link bracket that fits differently than the one I have.

Also. The current bracket won't work at all. Because it's not big enough to cover both the upper and lower bolts. So it would have to be the 4 hole bracket. The big question is, why exactly does Xtreme have different specifications for the Cast Iron and Aluminum rear ends? Is it just because of the bolt pattern?

They say the 3 hole bracket can be bought for both rear ends. But there is no way it's going to fit unless their bracket is bigger than the standard one. But they have no specs on their website. Something that would be helpful. It's easier to buy parts when you have measurements.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
