Default 149 racing

I have a 149 I purchased with the k321 they said it had recently been rebuilt. The throttle is wild on it cant control rpms other than at idle. it idles fine but when you give it some gas it just takes off rpms just keep climbing until you put it back to idle. Anybody have any ideas could it be a bad governor?

You've adjusted the linkage, or the arm on the governor shaft? Did you rotate the shaft counterclockwise?

If so, then it's time to open it up. The governor gear is likely in a heap in the oil pan.

FWIW, you can get the governor out without complete disassembly...... but you have to be patient.

Default 149 update and questions

I took the 321 apart today and it had been rebuilt very recently. the governor
was not broken up but it was not on the shaft it was tipped sidways and the cam gear was chewing away at it. My question is when i replace the governor will the new one do the same thing or did they just not install the first one correctly. also they didnt install the main seal correctly so it was leaking so I decided to tear it down all the way and do things correctly.

It probably fell off the shaft while rolling it around to assemble it, and before they got the cross shaft in. It's just one of those things you have to watch out for. The new gear should be fine. It does have the Philips head screw (gov gear retainer) installed doesn’t it? I don't trust the retainer. I install the cross shaft and use a piece of tape or something to hold it until I get the arm and carb on.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
