Hello all, I have been stalking the forums for awhile and finally picked up a couple cubs the other day. I got ahold of a 106 and a 682 . They both sat in a shed for 6 yrs . The 106 was parked in running and driving condition when the previous owner got the 682. It ran for about two years until a rod decided to take a break for some "air" and then it was parked. A Husqvarna zero turn took the place of both since then. I got them both for $450 and they are in good shape with cutting decks( minus blown engine of course) . With some good fuel and new battery the 106 is running very well. I'm looking for a replacement engine for the 682, hoping to find a used one on eBay, or get lucky and find one locally. One issue with the 106 is the PTO belt keeps jumping off, the pulleys are a bit worn on the shaft though. Couple of pics attached, let me know how I did, honest opinions please! Thanks and my name Brian

looks about right.
A mag-18 will bolt right in that 682 and make you a nice ride. Just keep your eyes open for one. Now there will be others right along that will mention of an updated engine, and they will work well also, I just have a fondness for opposed twins.

Go with a running Mag. Unless you are an expierenced mechanic I wouldn't mess with a kt. Even then I would still pick a mag.
They are around just look.

It is in your finical best interests to not fool with a KT series 1.
The series 2 and magnums are better. The series 1's has a piss poor oiling system, that is why it pitched the rod,as did many many of them. Save the carb, it is a good adjustable one, you will want it on your next engine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
