Default Opinion on a 1250 I just found

I just found this 1250 pictured below. I know nothing about the 1250's other than what I've seen in jsoluna's thread I just started reading.

This guy is "asking" $550, it has a 12 HP Kohler that's just had new ignition components however isn't currently running. Looks like no air cleaner on in the pics. He states he has the side panels.

EDIT: Looks like air cleaner on the deck.

Any thoughts ? What should I offer ?

Hi Steve, I love QuietLine series Cub Cadets...most of my collection consists of these models. However, these models are older and have the the typical issues such as motor mounts, worn out drive line components and swiss cheese style mower deck pans. I would be concerned that this one has had new ignition components but does not run. No air cleaner parts are disturbing. Has this thing eaten a great deal of dirt and, as a result, the engine shot? 1250's are plentiful in Ohio...not sure about your area but $550 seems high. If it has a three point, spring assist kit and possible a tiller gear box on the back end that does improve the price. Good luck...keep an eye open for better models...be patient, they are out there.

Steve, That last pic shows the tractor does, indeed, have a three point hitch and the spring assist lift kit!

I don't see any arms coming rearward from the lower sides. And is that the pto shaft upper center ? Hard to see and I'm used to the shaft being low center.

I don't doubt you at all, I'm much more familiar with Kubotas.

Since it has those features, what do you think price wise ?

The three point system is not a "category x" like bigger tractors use. This setup was designed for an IH tiller to name one item. Many other IH and non IH built attachments will work with it.

Take a close look at the deck. They rust through under the support plate, near the center top and right wheel support.

Not running drastically affects the price. You could be buying a pig in a poke! I would offer considerably less than the seller is asking.

That is a wise decision unless you can get it for $175, $200 max.
That is, unless you are looking for a long term, expensive project.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
