I'm slowly addressing the messed up things on my 125. I've got only two good threads holding my steering wheel on. I've realized the past owner cobbled and pretended to be a mechanic. Where do I start, and what are my options? Are replacement shafts available,o r will I have to look for the whole assembly? Thanks guys! I sit here wondering, how in the hell did this happen!

The easiest solution will be to buy a used shaft or complete used column.

I know a guy out here in WA in the town of Yelm that parts out the IH cubs. I've gotten LOTS of parts from him, to keep my small fleet running. He's friendly, not terribly expensive, and I've done trades as well as buying things from him. Don't know about shipping, though, I've always just driven down to his place in person.
His name is Joel Cook, his ads for parts are almost always on Seattle Craigslist under Farm and Garden-Cub Cadet-By Owner. jcszone@aol.com

When searching for a new steering shaft, use care to select the proper replacement..... There are different steering assemblies over the years..... mostly the length of steering cam and tube.

They do pop up on the 'net frequently, as well the sponsors at the top of the page
A lot of garden tractors use that steering box other than cub. but most differ in length of shaft as well as mounting configuration. |

You don't say what is damaged about your threads or where the good ones are.
How about getting a slightly smaller metric thread die and cut new threads in your shaft? |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
