This machine has had a noise that is between a rattle and knocking noise while running for some time. It sounds more like its from under the seat that ahead towards the engine. It runs well and is used regularly for plowing and is retired to storage during the summer months. I am hoping that it will continue to function until spring when I can do some troubleshooting. We are currently getting another winter storm (2/3/22) and will need it to plow. Has anyone experienced this and what was done to correct it? Thanks for any feedback.

I believe I would pull the cover and take a look. Might be something
coming loose with your driveline. Could be a simple fix unless it blows up while you are plowing. Then you could be down fixing lots of stuff. Good luck and check back with what you find. Ken |

Since that family of engines is pressure lubrication, I would see what the oil pressure is using a hand held mechanical gauge. The oil pressure port is on the right (as you are sitting on it) side front of the block. Cold PSI should be 50-60 psi. Hot at 3650 RPM 40-45 PSI using 30 Weight oil

Very possible its your drive shaft check for play."Cub Cadet 1541 (141-652-100) - Cub Cadet Garden Tractor (SN: 816509 - 821059) Drive Line Parts Lookup with Diagrams | PartsTree" https://www.partstree.com/models/154...drive-line-13/

Thank you for the responses. I pulled the tunnel cover and nothing is obvious in there...I will run it with the cover off and use a plastic hose to listen and try to determine where the noise is coming from.....From observing the drive breakdown I can see where this may challenge my abilities...

Don't underestimate your abilities, the drive line is pretty simple once you study some on it.

There is just a slight amount of play in the shaft.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
