Is there somewhere I can find a part number for the throttle link return spring for my Cub Cadet and KT17?

(A) The "spec" is located on the Engine Model/Serial tag. It is located on the top of the engine, near the Breather under the Carb. It is a five digit number starting with 24, ie: 24XXX.

(B) Either copy down or post a picture of the Model/Serial Tag of the tractor Chassis. That is located near the LH Foot Pedal.

I am learning so much about this thing. When my dad and I bought it, we put it in the shed, I ended up having a family, and never touched it for 15yrs. Machine started up right away after jumping it. Shocked really.

I have learned that this is an International Harvester version, not MTD, as well as it appears that I have a Series I KT17. Good news is that my yard is flat!

The oil plug I read means something. Just curious what your thoughts are.

Also, it appears that the original owner added a performance intake, as he drilled a hole in the air filter cap and filter metal piece!

It would appear that my tractor: 689547, is one of the last 5000 of the 29,427 built.

First 782: 665001
Last 782: 694428

Everything about this tractor makes me believe that this engine is a Series 1. But I should probably dig in a bit to see what I can see on the Kohler side of things. Perhaps this was an engine replacement.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
