Default Tiller question

I have a tiller on a 1450 that has a chip pulley that destroys belts has anyone here ever used a standard pulley on the gear box mounted to the tractor? The standard pulley isn’t as doesn’t cover the shaft as much as the original one.

Which pulley are you talking here?
The input from the mule drive or the output to the tiller proper?
And What do you mean by "standard pulley"?
They all need to be the proper/correct diameter for the correct ratios to work properly.

I cannot tell you what you plan to do will work...but....

Is the pulley you want to replace driven by PTO belt, same part as this?

You just missed this one. If this eBay item is indeed what you need, I suggest you monitor eBay closely as sometimes sale falls thru or a seller might have another.

Yes,that is the pulley I am replacing with one that isn’t quite as deep maybe only covers a inch of shaft not 3 inches. I found one the same diameter and only $17 not $90

Let me guess....Hmmmm....$17 huh??

A pot metal farm store item?

That pulley transmits A LOT of torque.
Do you really want something that cheap in that application?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
