Default Hydro Trunion Repair 149

After inspecting the spring set up on my hydro trunion, I need to proceed with repairs. I believe I have read most of the info on the repairs but I’m am struggling to figure out how to remove the control bar from the transmission. In looking at a transmission manual they show what looks like some snap ring groves but other diagrams do not show that.

I’m not that experienced with mechanical items so I’m hoping you all might be able to give me some pointers. I’ll attempt to add pictures of what I’m talking about.

Thanks. John in Mn

Why do you need to remove it? There are a few sponsors at the top of the page that make repair kits for these that you repair in place. I have welded a few of mine without removing.

There's no need to remove it. Just build it up slowly leaving lots of time for the heat to dissipate.

I’ve been looking at several sources that show repairing while on the tractor. I seem to be “search” challenged as I just saw these this morning. Being new to this I find that first looking up the correct part name makes the search much easier…duh?

Now I’m wondering if the damper plate also could use some adjustment. How much “play” should there be in the spring slot on the damper plate?

I’m waiting on shims to arrive and should likely order new springs too.

Thanks for everyone’s suggestions.

Default Thank you

Just wanted to thank you all for your help with this repair. I still need to adjust but found a clunk in the rear end I want to track down first. I also added a few 10 thou shims to take up some of the slack on pivot points of the trunion.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
