Thanks for k62af model I was told by cub cadet k62a no idea what differance is Although being a plumber all my life and a son who was a mechanic no longer living I have done many jobs were a spring or ball bearing jumps out dissapears and no idea were it came from, and at 82 my abbility is not as good as it was and this looks like one of those jobs , so was hoping for a tech locally to work on it

Having successfully done a couple Tuff-Torqs and Hydro-Gears here's what I can tell you from experience:
Unless you are 110% certain that you can do the job, don't even think about it. It requires that you be totally prepared and unbelievably meticulous in what you do. I watched dozens of videos and read other peoples posts who did repairs, and I took dozens of step-by-step photos as I disassembled. Would I do it again? Yeah, because of the obvious "the more you do it". But here's the kicker, even if you could find someone that would do it for free, the cost of new internal parts for these things is WAY beyond what you may imagining your final bill might be, and of course you won't know what you need until it's disasembled. Wish I could give you better news, but them's the facts.

Cost of rebuild
HI
I see on ebay techs charging $100 plus parts plus shhipping. A full kit from mulligans is approx $400 so I expect to pay approx $600 total still a lot cheaper than a new box. Another way could be a dealer who does exchange units but still looking for one colin

Changing transmission on gx54d
HI
I was searching for replacing the kt62af/ 830 for a kt62ag/ 840 looks identical 840 is cheaper but it seems as you state gear ratio internal could be differant Would the 840 work in the gx54d THANKS COLIN
